AT THE APPOINTED TIME

Image
"Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers; and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward." (1 Samuel 16 : 13) The anointing of God does not guarantee a trouble-free life, but it is the power that pulls us through the trouble. When the prophet, Samuel, anointed David as Israel’s next king, the Spirit of the Lord came upon him from that day forward. Samuel departed for home, and David returned to his father’s flocks. Later, when an evil spirit troubled King Saul, he sent for David to play the music that soothed him. Finally, he was in the palace where he belonged! But when his father called for help, David left for home. When Israel warred against the Philistines, David went to check on his brothers. There, the anointing rose up to defeat the arrogant Goliath with one stone. David’s fame grew, and so did Saul’s jealousy. Threatened with his murderous rage, David was forced to flee. For years, David ran from Saul – hid...

EXPLOSION OF ABUNDANCE

Image
"And you shall take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle and all that  is  in it; and you shall hallow it and all its utensils, and it shall be holy." (Exodus 40 : 9) As Moses and the children of Israel completed the Tabernacle of God, He commanded Moses to anoint the tabernacle and everything that was in it. Every curtain, piece of furniture, article of clothing, and priest was anointed with the oil of God. Without that anointing, nothing could be used for God’s purposes, could be close to God’s presence or experience God’s power.  His anointing sanctified the common and made it holy. The religious leaders of Jesus’ day relinquished the anointing for man-made rules and empty traditions. Jesus called them white-washed tombs full of dead men’s bones. Outwardly, they had an appearance of religion, but their very lives denied the validity of its power (II Timothy 3:5). They preferred the prestige and comfort of their position over the true presence of God in their ...

BLOOD OF HIS CROSS

Image
"For it pleased  the Father that  in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself … whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the Blood of His Cross." (Colossians 1 : 19 - 20) Only the Blood of Jesus – only the Blood of His cross – reconciles us to the Father. Only His Blood makes peace between us and God. When the Nile River turned into blood in the first plague of Egypt, every stream ran red and the water in every vessel in every home turned to blood. That blood did not save us. When Solomon dedicated the Temple, he sacrificed 22,000 oxen and 120,000 sheep. So much blood – but those offerings could not wash away their sins. The Roman army surrounded Jerusalem in 70 A.D. The city was decimated, the Temple was destroyed, and over one million people, mostly Jews, were killed. Their blood could not bring us into right relationship with God. The only Blood that can remove the stain of sin from our souls is ...

LIFE IN THE BLOOD

Image
"For the life of the flesh  is  in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it  is  the blood  that  makes atonement for the soul." (Leviticus 17 : 11) God instituted animal sacrifice to make atonement for the sinful souls of humanity in the Old Testament, but a river of blood from bulls, rams, goats, and turtledoves could not save us. Christ alone redeemed us from the curse of the Law through the shedding of His Blood (Galatians 3:13)! Only His Blood could atone for us. We are not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold or the dead-end traditions of the past. No! We were bought with the priceless Blood of the perfect Lamb (1 Peter 1:18-19). The Innocent died so the guilty could go free! In our physical bodies, bones, muscles, organs, tendons, and nerves are set in place. The blood, though, is ever moving. It circulates through the body about every 20 seconds carrying oxygen, nutrients, and cle...

POWER OF THE BLOOD

Image
"And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission." (Hebrews 9 : 22) Our generation thrives on power. We pay professional athletes exorbitant salaries to vanquish their competitors. The automobile industry builds stronger, sleeker vehicles. The military develops mightier rockets and weapons of destruction. At Calvary, God unleashed the most extraordinary power the world ever had – or ever will – experience. There, Jesus poured out His Blood for the remission of all humanity’s sins, to cancel the debt against us. His atonement bought our redemption and reconciliation to the Father. The power, purity, purpose, and protection of the Blood encompass the mystery of God’s salvation plan. The scarlet thread of blood runs through the Bible. When Adam and Eve sinned, they were naked and ashamed. In His mercy, God provided animal skins to cover them. The principle was established that blood must be shed to cancel ...

REDEEMED BY THE BLOOD

Image
"In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace…" (Ephesians 1 : 7) We have been redeemed by the Blood of Jesus Christ. Our sins have been forgiven, and we are accepted in the Beloved. Oh, the riches of God’s grace! Colossians 2:14 says that He “wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us.” The impossible-to-uphold Law is the handwriting that stands against us. One broken statute meant we were fully guilty. “Handwriting” was the term used for the signature on an IOU, a document that acknowledged a debt we could not pay. But Jesus signed our IOU at the Cross. An ancient method existed for indicating a paid-in-full debt. A person could cross out the writing on the IOU or strike through it with a nail. Jesus’ nail-pierced hands crossed out the judgment against us. Picture your long list of sins written down for all to see. Can you see the nail pounded through Jesus’ hand to the list beneath? Can yo...

Ministry Of Reconciliation

Image
"Now all things  are  of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation…" ( 2 Corinthians 5 : 18) Many of us have been abandoned, betrayed or abused. Actions taken against us left scars on our souls, continual anger or deep bitterness. Those offenses destroyed our peace of mind. We have a Savior that we abandoned. We deserted our faith to chase after lesser things. We wounded Him and heaped up injustices against Him. Still, He emptied Himself of all heavenly royalty and humbled Himself to the point of death on the Cross…even while we were still sinners. When we approached Him to plead for forgiveness, He opened up His arms and poured out grace. He reconciled us to God. He chose forgiveness, washed away the sins of the past, and refused to remember them anymore. He gave us the ministry of reconciliation. He healed our vertical relationship with the Father, so we can show others the way back to Him. Through Christ,...
